Marty Burke

Marty’s Bio

Marty was born in England and immigrated to Canada with his parents and younger sisters at age six. He grew up in Saskatchewan and graduated from the University of Regina. In a 23-year navy and air force career he served our country on postings from coast to coast in Canada and overseas.

 In 2000 he retired from the Air Force and joined Air Canada where he has piloted aircraft throughout the world leading his appointment as Captain. The following year he and wife Trish chose Guelph as the community in which they will live and raise their family.

Marty holds a Bachelor of Science degree as well as numerous leadership, management, and instructional qualifications from his distinguished military career. He has been awarded four medals, including ones related to his  duties with the United Nations in the Middle East as a peacekeeper.

Actively involved in politics for the past nine years at the municipal, provincial, and federal levels, he has served on the federal Conservative and provincial Progressive-Conservative Board of Directors in Guelph. He was chosen to join a defence work group where he was a major influence in producing a defence white paper that is reflected in today’s national defence policy. His informed opinions on current events are frequently published in local and national newspapers.   

Marty, aged 49, attends the Church of Our Lady and is actively involved in our community in a service club and as a scout leader. He enjoys golf and running.  Marty and Trish have been married for over 20 years and have three children aged 9, 17, and 19.
